No money for us!

I've been pondering why the federal government would not contribute 30 million dollars towards the reopening of the Essex Engine plant. After all, it's just a drop from the bucket of surplus they guard. They have helped out other industries in need (and some that weren't). They recently announced a big new funding pot for one-industry towns that might find themselves in dire need. Why doesn't Windsor make the grade?

Then....it hit me. There could be a federal election at any time. Is Prime Minister Harper trying to send a message to us. And by 'us' I mean those who keep electing those pesky NDP candidates.

Think about it. Is this a not-so-subtle message that Harper has the money to help us out in a big way, but if we ever want to see it, we better elect some Conservatives in this city and get rid of those NDPers who are constantly pointing out the flaws in the current government?

I actually feel sorry for Essex MP Jeff Watson. He no sooner says that good news is just around the corner and Harper does an end run around him. If Jeff Watson, a former auto guy, can't get Harper to understand the importance of the auto industry in this country, and get us the money, then who can?

I think this is exactly it. We're being punished for being NDP supporters. Ugh. Politics seriously make my head hurt.
At least we now know where we REALLY stand with the conservatives. Once again, Windsor takes on the role as "The Great Doormat of South Western Ontario"...

Here's to hoping the Conservative government changes it's mind and puts some money behind this project.

A vote for the NDP is a vote wasted. What have Brian and Joe delivered besides protest?

I'm obviously the odd one out - but I'm actually glad the Fed's didn't drop more money in the automakers' pockets. As a student of business I just feel that company's should take responsibility for their own dealings - try looking inside before you cry on the outside. I'd prefer to see my tax dollars put into health, education, environment and other important departments than to just re-open another plant.
If the automakers would just wake up and realize that they can't continue to pump out millions of huge gas-guzzling hogs and then sit back and wonder why no one is buying their products. They have just barely begun to scratch the surface of producing more economical and "green" products but still have a really long way to go!!
I'm just tired of "Big Business" reaping the rewards of my taxes!!!

Windsor is not being punished for being NDP supporters. That is way too easy an excuse.
Since Windsor is one of the highest taxed municipalities in Ontario(from experience) why haven't they offered tax cuts over the next ten years as incentive? Windsor is awash with cash so much that others are looking towrds Windsor's model.(so we are told)
The Feds have money out there but the demand for a specific platnt or industry is not there. Well not yet.
It's go nothing to do with elections and nothing to do with the NDP.
If they were appproached and not demanded upon they probably would have open ears and eyes.
Too bad the local leaders haven't caught on yet.
Windsor is not a target for punishment, far from it.
It needs savvy leaders, not whiners and finger pointers.
Wouldn't it be great if they jus negotiated for once?
