Thought for the day (or week or month)

Do you talk too much? Think about it.

On Losses.....jobs, weight and others.

The Biggest Loser contest if finally over.  Even though I was laid off last week, I was allowed back in the building for the final weigh-in and despite the turmoil of the past few days, I managed to lose almost another pound.I finished in second place and I'm darn proud of that.  Now I will look smokin' hot when I go on all those job interviews.  A big congrats to Greg Gnyp who won the contest and Sarah Casella who came in third!  I'm very proud of them and everyone else who stuck it out for the 15 weeks.
It was a looong 15 weeks. By the end, I couldn't wait for the contest to be over.  But I'm glad I took part and I'm really glad I lost 32.6 pounds.  I'm not so glad I lost my job.  But anyone who knows me, knows I truly believe everything happens for a reason.  There must be something I'm supposed to do that will lead me down another path.  Either that, or they will see the error of their ways and offer me my job back (this is me not holding my breath).
Many of us now find ourselves without gainful employment and it sucks.  I know things will turn around eventually in Windsor and I hope I will still be here when that happens.  I currently have no plans to leave, but you never know what's going to happen do you?
So for the time being, I am going to enjoy my new bod and try to figure out what to do for the rest of my life.

Starting weight - 164.8 lbs.
Weight lost     -  32.6 lbs.
Current weight  - 132.2 lbs.

The last time you hit the 130-somethings you were in your twenties, right? Amazing. You're almost venturing into 120-something-land.
Your skinny ass WILL be missed...that goes without saying (although everyone in Windsor Essex and BEYOND has said the same thing) - but we all know - you've got the hair, the flare and the savoir fare...and it's been said you have a decent voice as well... Bigger and better things await - and I for one, cannot wait to see where your star will shine next.
Windsor needs a voice more than ever before. Bigger things to come.
(And you know I'm not just kissing your ass! We don't even work together anymore!)
xoxo,
Dan

I still feel so bad that you've lost your job Mel and I too hope they wake up and realize their error. But, I'm like you in that I too feel everything happens for a reason...even the bad. Sometimes it happens just to give us the push we need to take our lives one step further.
Being on strike sucks too. I don't want to be out there but I really believe that if we don't fight for the future hires, we'll be screwed down the road because one day, those new hires are going to be our Union leaders and they'll say "you get exactly what we have". Everything that we worked so hard to get will be out the window. Truthfully, I'd rather be paying for my benefits now so that I'll have them when I retire. That's when I'll need them the most.
Anyways kiddo, I hope we stay in touch and I wish you all the best with whichever road you choose to go down.

The best always gets wasted, seems to be the way in Canadian show-biz. Mel, I am very proud you are a Canadian citizen but I am also very happy to know you have retained your American citizenship. Detroit is only one mile away. I only listen to your former radio station for one, hourly newscast, a day. I miss your presence so much it is just too painful for me to continue on listening. I sense the community will miss you, too, and some may even scan the dial for a chance to hear you voice, once again.
Whichever Detroit radio station picks you up, that station will have 'The Gem' from the Canadian side on their side, and, at that, already polished! (a smart move by Detroit broadcasters)
Sometimes we Canadians make the stupidest of decisions when it comes to letting great air-talent go.
Melanie, take it from me, an old guy, you're the best female announcer I have ever heard. You are incredibly talented and with the sweetest voice in all of radio! Good luck, girl, in whichever path you may follow!
